800 Boxes of Bullets Seized On Commercial Bus

The Ghana police service has impounded a commercial bus belonging to OA Travel and Tours, a private transport company which was fully loaded with about 800 packets of Rio AAA and BB cartridges.

The driver of the bus, Kojo Billy, 41, and his conductor, Abraham Yorke, 23, were arrested at the Dobro Police Barrier on the Accra-Nsawam highway around 8:30 pm Tuesday, July 21, 2015 while they were driving the bus bound for Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Another accomplice, identified as Alhaji Wenchi, a resident of Techiman, who is believed to be the owner of the ammunition has also been arrested.

Speaking in an interview on PEACE FM's 6pm news bulletin, ASP Afia Tengey said they had a tip-off and went on to inspect the bus with registration number AW 6758-12. After the inspection, they realized that the bus had loaded packets of Rio AAA and BB cartridge.

According to her, if you are moving ammunition from one region to the other, you need to seek for permit from the CID and the BNI before transporting them. This is a very serious issue because the car could explode especially when an accident occurs.
