Lets Sanitize Our Political System; Not All Political Parties Should Be Allowed To Operate In Ghana - Political Scientist

Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Evans Aggrey Darko has pooh-poohed the influx of many political parties in the country.

According to him, all smaller political parties operating in the country without meeting the requirement to establish parties should be scrapped in order to sanitize the system so that political parties without offices in all the regions will cease to function.

Speaking on Oman Fm’s "National Agenda" Morning Show, Dr. Aggrey Darko mentioned that some of the political parties in the country do not meet the criteria for setting up parties, hence should be scrapped.

“They should sanitize the system to allow few parties to operate; not all political parties should operate in the name of democracy. Some parties don’t meet the criteria for setting up parties and they should be scrapped,” he chided.

His comment is born out of the trip President John Dramani Mahama took to Italy Tomato factory in the company of the founder and leader of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, whose party is insignificant to deepen democracy.

Commenting further on the trip, Dr. Aggrey Darko will be surprised Madam Akua Donkor’s contribution will be far greater than the Agricultural experts in the country and in the Universities.

He asserted that Akua Donkor’s involvement in the trip to Italy is to demonstrate that NDC government wants to show that it is ready to extend its hand to other persons who want to come on board.

He insisted that though delegations are sent on such trip to negotiate and offer critical thinking, President Mahama may have sent Madam Akua Donkor to Italy to convince others that anybody can get closer to the Presidency with hard work.
