Confident Trickster Jailed Five Years

A Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. John Ekow Mensah, has sentenced a 33-year-old confident trickster to five years imprisonment for swindling one Kwabena Attakorah of CFA 2,488,000, the equivalent of GHȼ18,800, under the guise of doubling the money for the victim.

Kwabena Anin was convicted after he pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and stealing.

He had committed the offence together with two others – Nana Kwame and Richard Appiah, now on the run on July 6, at about 0700 hours.

Police Superintendent Regina Addo-Yobo told the court that the victim, a driver’s mate, had been sent by his master to collect the said amount of money from one Abubakar Sadik Ahmed.

Whilst returning with the money, the convict and his fugitive colleagues approached him at a spot near the Suame Total Filling Station and convinced him that they could double the cash for him.

He fell for the trap as they swapped the CFA notes with neatly cut papers and fled with the money.

Attakorah quickly run to tell his master what had happened and a formal report was made to the police.

The prosecution said Anin was later arrested through the assistance of some good “Samaritans”.

He confessed to the crime in his caution statement and said he spent his share of the money to procure a television set, mattress, home theatre and traveling bag.

The police recovered all the mentioned items during their investigation.
