An alleged thief named Baba, stunned many who sat at the District Court when he confessed that he stole to feed.

The thief, who had been arrested and beaten up mercilessly in the Accra suburb of Adjiriganor, confessed that his theft of a sum of GH50.00 from a lady’s car seat had resulted from the fact that he had not eaten throughout the whole day.

Narrating the incident to The General Telegraph newspaper, DSP Ablorh said but for the timely arrival of the police, the suspect would have been beaten to death on Monday night.

He explained that the young guys in the area, rushed to the scene when a mate shouted at the thief.

“The timely presence of the police, who were ready to start their evening patrols, stopped the armed area boys from lynching the suspect, although he had received some beating from the crowd,” he further narrated.

The lady, whose car was broken into, touched by the suspect, Baba’s confession, asked him to keep the money and drove off while the police conveyed him to the Madina jail.

On arrival at the District Court on Monday, Baba who appeared without legal representation, was tasked to get a legal representation and granted bail to the tune of GH500.00.

The case was adjourned on Wednesday, to August 5, 2015.
