DDRF Supports June 3 Flood-Fire Victims With GHC 1,400 Each

Two eminent businessmen, the Chief Executive Officer [CEO] of the Despite Group of Companies, Dr. Osei Kwame (Despite) and Chief Executive Officer of Special Investments Ltd, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong have provided support to surviving victims of the June 3, 2015 flood-fire disaster which left 160 people dead.

Noted for their humanitarian gestures nationwide, the duo through their joint relief fund dubbed “Despite Disaster Relief Fund” donated to each of the over 150 victims an amount of ₵1,400 - plus "This Way" Chocolate Drink and Special Ice mineral water from their respective companies - wax print fabrics were also added to the donation.

Following the massive destruction of properties running into several millions of cedis and the loss of 160 lives, in last month's flood and fire disaster, Dr Osei Kwame and Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong set up a relief fund with an initial amount of GHC 100,000 to support relief efforts for the victims.

The fund was to cater for surviving victims treated at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Police Hospital and Ridge Hospital.

However, the fund was also made public for individuals to help with ‘any amount’ or product; and the feedback from the public was quite impressive and remarkable; raising over GHC 220,000.

During a joint presentation at the Ghana Police Hospital in Accra, Friday July 24, 2015 – the Director of the Police Hospital Doctor Amo Mensah who received the items on behalf of the hospital and the victims lauded the two business partners.

May God continue to bless them so they can also help others,” he said

The over 100 victims from the 37 Military Hospital together and the Police Hospital were all presented with their cash and products.

The victims showed appreciation and just like Oliver Twist, asked for more – “We are very grateful to Peace FM, Dr. Despite and his brother Dr. Ofori. We hope others will emulate their gesture and come to our aid

Despite Disater Relief Fund also donated assorted drugs worth GH₵34, 000 to 37 Military Hospital for the treatment of the flood victims still at the hospital.

The Fund Manager, Mr. Obeng Menu and his deputies Kwadwo Asante and Mawuse Woka, presented the drugs to the hospital authorities

“...this is an excellent approach to help the flood victims. This is because, some of the victims had to purchase medical consumables for treament from pharmacy shops. The donation will help solve that problem,” Lt Col Adzagba, Administrative Officer in Charge of Medicals at the 37 Military Hospital told the media after receiving the items.

They also thanked Dr. Osei Kwame (Despite) and Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong for their kind gesture.
