Junior Doctors To Receive Salaries Wednesday

Government has promised to settle the 91 junior doctors who have not been paid for 11 months.

The Minister of Employment and and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu reached an agreement with the junior doctors who were gathered at the premises of Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

Junior doctors numbering about 50 out of the 91 on Monday, 27th July, 2015 gathered at CAGD to express their anger over their 11-month salary arrears.

This comes after several calls on authorities in the health sector and CAGD to have their salaries paid, yielded no results.

Even though the police had wanted to stop them, they explained to them that they were at the premise to only present a petition to the CAGD and not to demonstrate.

Speaking in an interview with PEACE FM, spokesperson of the Junior Doctors, Dr Nana Kissi Attafuah indicated that the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations in a meeting with the aggrieved doctors, promised that by Wednesday, their salaries, which had delayed for 11 months will be paid.

“He (Haruna Iddrisu) said he has put his reputation on the line and that by Wednesday, we will get our money. We agreed and we have given them up to Friday. If by then the money has not hit our account, Ghanaians will know that we have tried,” Dr Attafuah said.

He also added that the Deputy Minister of Health, Victor Bampoe also met them (junior doctors) and assured them that the money will be paid.
