Only Thing Weve Not Given To CAGD Is Our Death Cert; Our DNA Samples Are Even Ready - Junior Doctors

The spokesperson for the 91 junior doctors who have not received their salaries for 11 months, Dr. Nana Kissi Attefuah says the frustrations the junior doctors are going through have reached crossroad as they cannot go beyond tomorrow if Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) does not pay them.

He stated that the “frustrated doctors” are tired with the verbal promises and assurances after they have provided every document the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) has requested from them.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Dr. Kissi Attefuah said the only thing they have not given to CAGD as part of the documents the department needs to pay them is their death certificate.

He added they are ready to subject themselves to undergo any DNA sampling test if it is part of the requirement needed before they are paid of their salaries.

He wondered why the government has decided to punish the 91 doctors who are scattered across the country in the hinterlands.

We are tired of the verbal promises and assurances. The only thing we have not given to CAGD is our death certificate; if they want our DNA samples, we are here to subject ourselves for it if that is what is required to get our salaries”, he bemoaned.

“They have taken undue advantage of us because we are scattered throughout the country in the hinterlands. Those of our colleagues in the cities have been paid because they were part of those doctors who were posted to Korle Bu and Komfo Anokye Teachings Hospitals”, he added.

He feared very soon all the 91 junior doctors will turn patients as they are working on an empty stomach; stressing “we cannot go beyond tomorrow if CAGD does not pay our salaries today”.

He indicated they are ready to offer typing help to Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) if it needs people to enter their names unto controller payroll.

Meanwhile, the Employment and Labour Relations Minister Haruna Iddrisu in a meeting with the group on Monday afternoon, assured 64 of the junior doctors will be paid on Wednesday July 29, 2015 while the remaining doctors receive their salaries next month (August) but failed to provide a specific date.
