Contractor Abandons SHS Project

A contractor building the Banda Community Day Senior High School in the Banda District of the Brong Ahafo Region has abandoned the project after receiving an amount of GH¢100,000 as initial payment.

The name of the contractor is Alhaji Zaaki.

The Banda Community Day SHS is one of the five schools allotted to the Brong Ahafo Region as part of the first 50 schools out of the 200 SHS promised by President John Dramani Mahama.

The project started in June 2014 and was to be completed in 18 months.

However, the project is still at its ground floor level.

When the media visited the site, iron rods, wood and other materials meant for the building had been abandoned, and miscreants can steal the items.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Banda, Mr Jacob Boateng, in an interview with The Finder, stated that the cost of the project is GH¢450,000.

Already, GH¢100,000 has been paid to Alhaji Zaaki, the contractor, for commencement of the project, but he is nowhere to be found, leaving the project at a standstill.

He said the contractor at the beginning of the project was not using the right specifications so the consultant, Akuffo and Associates, ordered him to pull down the foundation, which he did.

Mr Boateng said he doubts if the contractor can complete the job on schedule after leaving the site for close to a year now.

He said the assembly was making efforts to get the contractor back to site to finish the work.

Calls placed to Alhaji Zaaki were not successful as his phone number was not reachable.
