Mayhem At Salaga: T.I Ahmadiyya SHS Students And Town Folks Attack Police

Information picked up by Peacefmonline.com indicates that students of the T.I Ahmadiyya Senior High School at Salaga in the Northern Region have clashed with their authorities causing mayhem in the locality.

The students are reported to have thronged the school premises in a brutal attack on the authorities and amidst tear gas.

Corroborating the incident to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Chief Inspector Yakubu of the Salaga Police Command recounted that the actions of the school authorities had angered the students.

He said some students were not allowed to take their examinations because they wore slippers to the classroom.

According to him, the students crowded the school Thursday morning ready to cause violence because the authorities disallowed those students.

Chief Inspector Yakubu further noted that the authorities sanctioned some students over their misconduct but the decision didn't sink down well with the student body of the school who also decided to attack the authorities.

The riot followed the arrest of some ten students of the Salaga T. I Ahmadiyya Schools.

During the attack, the Police trooped to the school campus to calm down tempers but according to Chief Inspector Yakubu, the students turned their anger on them destroying a Police van at the Police Station.

The Police were therefore compelled to shoot tear gas into the students to disperse them.

This heightened tensions at Salaga as some students reportedly burned down some properties of the school in response to the authorities.

According to Chief Inspector Yakubu, the incident has angered many town folks who have invaded the school in defence of the students.

He said the people have outnumbered the police compelling the latter to resort to indiscriminate firing of warning shots in an attempt to disperse the unyielding crowd.

The under pressure police officers have called for reinforcement from the regional police command in Tamale.
