Chereponi MP To Be Buried Today

The late Member of Parliament for Chereponi will be buried today in her hometown in Chereponi in the Northern region. Doris Seidu passed away on July 31 after suffering severe kidney complications at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. She came to Parliament on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2005 and retained the seat last year. Chereponi is seen as a swing constituency, and according to political pundits, the MPs death does not bode well for the NPP, which won the constituency by a very slim margin. The constituency is made up of two ethnic groups, the Chokosis and Kokombas and political analysts argue that the party would need to get a candidate, who like the former MP, could lay claim to both tribes. Gender activists have also been advocating for political parties to field female candidates for the seat.
