Mr Mark Owen Woyongo, Minister of the Interior, visited the Police Hospital to ascertain preparedness to receive patients who might be referred from other hospitals, as a result of the ongoing doctor�s strike.
Medical doctors in the country under the umbrella of the Ghana Medical Association have laid down their tools to press home their demand for proper conditions of service.
That was after a meeting between the doctors and the Ministers of Employment and Labour Relations Finance and Health ended in a deadlock.
The doctors subsequently declared a sit-down strike to demand for proper conditions of service, amidst threats to resign en masse.
Mr Woyongo who was received by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan observed that doctors on duty were at post attending to patients coming in for treatment as usual.
A total of 60 doctors are running shift.
Mr Woyongo appealed to the striking doctors to return to work whilst negotiations for the conditions of service are ongoing.
Commissioner of Police Mohammed Seidu Zakaria said the hospital has 100 -bed capacity.
He said the hospital has exceeded the capacity with 50 additional beds.
