The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Mr John Kwao Sackey, has called for a non-partisan partnership approach to development in the district. He said the district could develop only when projects were carried out devoid of partisan politics. Mr Sackey cited the contributions of the former and current Members of Parliament (MPs) for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Prof. Mike Oquaye and Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo, respectively as typical examples of politicians who had adopted a non-partisan approach to the development of the assembly. Town hall meeting Speaking at a town hall meeting at Haatso, he said the assembly supported MPs to use their share of the District Assembly Common Fund to undertake a number of development projects. Mr Sackey mentioned some of the projects as the Taifa Polyclinic and mechanisation of boreholes for schools, markets and hospitals within the municipality. "I am explaining all these to you for you to understand that when we partner each other irrespective of our political affiliations, we will achieve good results," Mr Sackey told the gathering. The town hall meeting was for the MCE to render account on the development status of the assembly for the period 2013 to 2015. The presentation highlighted the numerous successes chalked up under his tenure with focus on areas such as education, health, road infrastructure and socio-economic development among others. Education He said within the period under review, the assembly had implemented various programmes and policies aimed at enhancing the quality of and access to education in the municipality. Mr Sackey itemised development projects undertaken in the district while he was in office to include the provision of infrastructure such as a new one-storey school block at Papao, libraries and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centres for schools at Kwabenya and Abokobi. He expressed profound gratitude to the President and the government for selecting his municipality to benefit from the 200 Model Day Senior High School projects, announcing that construction work had already begun on a parcel of land acquired at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission. Mr Sackey, however, said a number of GETFund school building projects had stalled and appealed to the Regional minister to intervene for the resumption of work on those projects. Other projects On health, the MCE said the assembly continued to expand and provide new infrastructure for the existing health facilities in the municipality, including the construction of a maternity and children's wards for the Abokobi Health Centre. Speaking about security, Mr Sackey lauded the efforts of resident associations and faith-based organisations for their instrumental role in providing security installations in some parts of the municipality, thereby reducing crime rate. He also mentioned the construction of a one-storey facility for the Abokobi District Police Station indicating that even though work was yet to be completed on the project, the police administration had deemed it fit to make the station a district police station. MCE Sackey said his administration had embarked on numerous road projects within the period to make commuting to and from the municipality easy and comfortable.
