Help Youth to Overcome Impunity, Churches Urged

Mr. Peter Anarfi-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has called on the church to focus its efforts at helping the youth to overcome indiscipline and impunity. He said this is the way to ensure that they become useful to the society. He denounced the surge in social vices among young people violent crimes, cyber fraud, sexual promiscuity, disrespect for the elderly and authority and said this should be a worry to everybody. The Bible - a powerful weapon for spiritual and social transformation, must be used to pull them back from the path of self-destruction. Mr Anarfi-Mensah was speaking at a thanksgiving service held to mark the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) at the Bantama Peyer Presbyterian Church in Kumasi. Gods transforming word: Life for all, was the theme for the event. The Regional Minister asked church leaders to be bold to condemn anything unlawful, undignified and poisonous to the health of the society. He said there could not be meaningful socio-economic progress where people simply chose to live outside the norms of acceptable social behaviour. Mr Anarfi-Mensah used the occasion to rally the congregation to show keen interest in the upcoming district level elections, saying, it was the way to strengthen local governance and deepen the nations democracy. They should not only vote but also ensure that they elected people, who could better represent their interests and bring development to their communities, he said. He applauded the BSG for the good job it was doing to spread the gospel and give hope to the people.
