TV Licence Saga: Wereko-Brobby Launches Abolish TV Licence Campaign On NEAT FM

Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby who was seeking to restrain the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from collecting TV Licence Fees has again launched a campaign to totally kick against the collection of TV licence.

An Accra Fast Track High Court on Monday authorized the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation with power to collect TV Licence fees from owners of TV sets across the country.

But the court presided over by R.R Batu is yet to pronounce whether GBC has the right to share TV Licence fees with any organization.

Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby filed an application for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining Ghana Broadcasting Corporation from sharing monies collected with the National Media Commission (NMC) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA).

But speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show "Ghana Montie", the former Volta River Authority boss, affectionately called “Tarzan” totally rubbished the collection of the TV fees.

According to him – despite the court's ruling on the case, he has set up a campaign to kick against the collection.

Dubbed – “Abolish TV Licence”, Dr. Wereko Brobbey called on all to join his campaign – adding that, they will soon hit the street to protest.

He however told host Kwasi Aboagye that – the collection of the TV licence is a “Bad luck”.
