NPP Is Behind Voters ID Collection... - Kofi Adams

National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has dismissed assertions by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) claiming some groups of persons are attempting to disenfranchise some Ghanaians in the 2016 general elections.

According to him, although it is criminal to demand the Voters’ ID of citizens, he believes the allegations made by the opposition that some government agencies are demanding the voters' ID in return for some services is a pretentious move by the opposition NPP to divert attention in order to carry out that particular plan.

A statement issued and signed by the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea on Tuesday alleged that some groups including trainee nurses, farmers and market women are being asked to submit their Voters’ ID cards in return for favors from some government agencies.

The NPP has further advised the general public not to give in to such demands by these unknown persons who are carrying this unauthorized exercise.

But speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Kofi Adams hinted the supposed voters’ ID collection exercise is being carried out by the opposition NPP as their Assin Central MP, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyepong on Adom TV revealed that his party has collected some voters’ ID from people living on the borders of the Western Region and Volta Region.

To him, it is not surprising to hear the NPP's Director of Communications coming out with such a statement.

“Now everybody knows their (NPP's) true pretentious character; exactly what they are doing now or intend to do later that they are announcing to make it look as if someone else is planning it. I am not surprised that Nana Akomea come up with this information because Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, NPP MP for Assin Central on Adom TV said NPP has collected some people’s Voter’s ID in Western region and Volta region on the border areas and that they will organize a press conference to address it”, he asserted.

He enlightened Ghanaians that the voters’ ID is biometric and so any registered voter with or without the card can verify at the polling centers to vote; urging that any affected person by these unidentified people can go to the Electoral Commission’s office for a new card; thus there is no sense in collecting the Voters’ ID card.
