Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. says striking doctors risk losing their hard earned reputation to if they refuse to rescind their decision.

Mr. Pratt speaking on Adom FM said the actions by the striking doctors have crippled most health facilities in the country which have subsequently resulted in deaths of ‘poor people’ in the country. This, he explained may have dire consequences on the doctors’ careers since they have rejected the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian as a result of government’s inability to heed to their demand which is expected to be implemented in 2016.

“If we continue appealing to our doctors to rescind their decision and they refuse to listen to us, then it simply means they don’t care about Ghanaians. “Doctors are respected in every country and that is why they are always given a proper treatment because of the nature of the job but if they (doctors) go ahead with their plans, then I’m sorry to say that they will lose their respect and their hard earned reputation,” he asserted. Striking members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) will be holding a General Assembly on Friday, August 14, 2015 to decide whether to resign en mass or not. Ghanaian doctors at public health institutions have abandoned the wards and withdrawn all emergency services over their conditions of service.

They have served notice of their intention to resign if government fails to heed their demands, but several stakeholders including the clergy have appealed to the doctors to rescind their decision. Kwesi Pratt hopes the striking doctors will change their minds after their assembly meeting Friday. “I believe something good will come out of their meeting tomorrow because they have taken us for granted for a very long time” he lamented.
