Unilever Ghana Supports 20th GJA Awards

Unilever Ghana has donated 5000 Ghana Cedis in support of this years GJA Awards, which will be held on Saturday, 15th August 2015 at the State Banquet Hall in Accra. The donation is in support of the Sanitation and Hygiene Reporting Award, which is in line with Unilevers mission to make sustainable living a commonplace. The presentation ceremony took place at the Ghana International Press Centre on Wednesday, 12th August, 2015. Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Maidie Arkutu, Managing Director of Unilever Ghana said Our support for Media fraternity is not new. As early as 1972, UAC of Ghana, the predecessor company of Unilever Ghana saw the great potential of the media in Ghana and the key role journalists can play in national development. For this reason, the company started a National Media Award to encourage good journalism and reward excellence. Unilever still believes in the great potential of the media in Ghana and the key role journalists can play in national development. The Media can play a significant role in the agenda of behaviour change: providing consumers with information about issues relevant to living improved and better lives. She added. Ms Arkutu said The objective for sponsoring this award is to value the work of media and professionals in raising awareness on the importance of good sanitation and hygiene practises. This award recognizes not only the journalist but also the work that brings out relevant information in the sector of sanitation and hygiene. Journalists are key partners in behavioural change and advocacy work. They greatly contribute to bringing in the spotlight on the too often neglected issues of the necessity of toilets and hand washing for a dignified, safe and healthy life for millions of people. This is part of our commitment to create a brighter future for Ghanaians. She added. Receiving the cheque, Mr. Affail Monney, President of the Ghana Journalist Association, thanked Unilever for the immense support over the years towards the GJA Awards and urged the company not to relent in its efforts to support the GJA in other events.
