I Was Disappointed In GTV...Their Studios Are "Miserable" - Deputy Sports Minister

Ghana's deputy sports minister, Vincent Oppong Asamoah has described the studios of State broadcaster, Ghana Television (GTV), as "miserable" and expressed disappointment in settings of the Television network.

Hon. Oppong Asamoah called on the management of the GTV to beef up their work and ensure better services to Ghanaians.

He however supported the idea for the collection of a TV license fee stressing that GTV needs the fees to improve its services.

To him, despite the "miserable" state of GTV studios; the station still remains outstanding and so called on Ghanaians to honour their obligation.

The National Media Commission has indicated that the collection of the TV license fees will soon resume in order to boost the State broadcaster.

In respect of this, domestic TV users with one television set will have to pay GHC 36 annually while those with more than two TV sets are expected to pay GHC 60 per year.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" regarding brouhaha over the collection of Television license fees, Hon. Oppong Asamoah said; “I believe it’s necessary because of the outstanding job that GTV is doing for Ghana. And I believe they also have to step up their game because when you go to their studio, it is miserable. The very first time I entered GTV studios, I was so disappointed…So, I think they need support.

It’s a good thing. When we’re pay up, then we can also demand from them the rendering of better service to us.”
