Wenchi Krontihene Jailed

Nana Owusu Ansah Kokroko II, known in private life as Rex Owusu Ansah, Krontihene of Wenchi in the Brong-Ahafo Region and former Clerk of Parliament and Nana Akyea Drowaa II, the former Krontihemaa of Wenchi and one other person, Nana Abrefa Nketia, a taxi driver, have been jailed by a Techiman circuit court presided over by Emmanuel Opare.

Presenting the case to the court, the prosecutor, B M Deboro, said on 20 September, 2013, Nana Owusu Ansah and Nana Abrefa Nketia went to the house of Madam Helena Nuama Apau, the wife of Justice Yaw Apau, a Supreme Court judge, but they did not meet her at home and demanded to know her whereabouts from one Auntie Georgina, an elder sister of Madam Apau.
She replied that Madam Helena Apau was not at home.

At that juncture, the prosecutor said, Nana Owusu Ansah asked her why she and others enstooled Madam Apau as the Krontihemaa of Wenchi, knowing that there is a substantive Krontihemaa.

Before Auntie Georgina could answer, Nana Abrefa Nketia pulled a belt and subjected Aaron Adu Boateng, who was standing there, to severe beatings.

According to the prosecutor, after beating Aaron Adu Boateng, Nana Abrefa Nketia, Nana Owusu Ansah and Nana Achiaa Drowaa pounced on one Ama Agyeiwaa and subjected her to equally severe beatings.

The case was reported to the Wenchi police and the two were given hospital forms to go for treatment.

The case was brought before Emmanuel Opare but on the day of ruling Nana Owusu Ansah and the two others failed to come to court and a bench warrant was issued to arrest them.

When they appeared before Mr Opare on Thursday, August 13, 2015, the circuit court judge slapped six months’ imprisonment on Nana Owusu Ansah and nine months on Nana Abrefa Nketia.

In the case of Nana Achiaa Drowaa, she was fined GH¢1,200 or in default six months’ imprisonment.
