Majeed Waris Hit With Fresh Injury Setback

The Ghana international could miss upcoming games with Congo and Rwanda after being confirmed to spend some time in the treatment room. FC Lorient striker Abdul Majeed Waris would be out of action for at least three weeks, the club have announced. The forward, whose signing was announced on August 6, is set to be sidelined after fracturing his hand in a 1-1 stalemate with Bastia in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday, just his first game upon joining the club. Voted man of the match, he is expected to miss games against Saint Etienne and Reims but could be back in time when Lorient take on Angers on September 12 after the international break. Majeed Waris is suffering from a broken left hand. He would be absent for three weeks, a club statement read. Seen as replacement for compatriot Jordan Ayew who left the club for English Premier League outfit Aston Villa on a 14 million move, Lorient acquired the former Valencienne forward on a three-year deal worth 5 million from Turkish side Trabzonspor. In a brief loan spell at Valencienne during the second half of season 2013-14, the former Right to Dream Academy trainee scored nine times in 16 league appearances on loan from Russian outfit Spartak Moscow. The 23-year-olds biggest achievement though, came in 2013 when he was adjudged the best player as well as the top scorer after hitting 23 goals in 29 games for Swedish side Hacken, after which he joined Spartak. A Black Star, Waris was a member of Ghanas 23-man squad at the 2014 Fifa World Cup but was resigned to only a single appearance in Ghanas 2-1 loss to Portugal after suffering an injury in a pre-tournament friendly game against South Korea. Ghana will play an international friendly match against Congo on September 1 before travelling to Kigali to face Rwanda in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on September 5.
