The paramount chief of Kpone Traditional Area Nii Tetteh Otu II, has expressed worry about the large number of projects abandoned across the country as a result of either the ousting or voting out of governments that initiated them.
He identified some of such projects as schools, roads, factories and warehouses abandoned from the First Republic to date and described their abandonment as a waste of vital national resources and called for a way to prevent future occurrence.
“We are fed up with sod cuttings that do not yield any result,” he said here on Tuesday when the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Afotey Agbo, on behalf of the government donated items worth GH¢20,000 and GH¢6,000 cash to the KTC and the 10 clan houses of Kpone towards this year’s Homowo festival.
He cited the Tema Oil Refinery –Kpone road, which had been abandoned for more than two years and the Kpone to Tema- Aflao Highway which was riddled with potholes as some of the projects that had a lot of promise but were either abandoned or executed shoddily.
Nii Otu who is also the Kpone Mantse, was worried about the falling standards of education and blamed the erratic changes in the Senior Secondary School system from three to four years and vice-versa and frequent changes in the school curricular as contributory factors.
He noted that in the old educational system pupils in middle school Form Two for instance could read and write good English but the same could not be said of Form two pupils at the Junior Secondary School now.
Nii Afotey Agbo appealed to the people of Kpone to exercise restraint as the Senior High School project recently commenced would be completed in 15 months as scheduled.
He noted that the other concerns raised by the Paramount Chief were matters dear to the government and all efforts would be made to address them.
