An aide to President John Dramani Mahama and former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya in the Central region, Alhaji Babalami Abu Sadat, has said he no intention to contest the Awutu Senya East constituency seat in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries.

“I am aware that some party members and party executives are campaigning for me to contest but I must say that President Mahama also needs my services at the Flagstaff House,” Alhaji Babalami stated while addressing the media.

He expressed appreciation to the thousands of NDC faithful and sympathizers, chiefs as well as opinion leaders in the Awutu Senya Constituency, who, he revealed, have urged him to contest the parliamentary election on the ticket of the ruling party.

The ruling NDC has fixed Saturday, November 7, 2015, as the date the party will go to the polls to elect or endorse its flag bearer and parliamentary candidates for next year’s general elections.
Per the modalities of the party’s upcoming parliamentary and presidential primaries, nominations will be open on the 27th August and close on 10th September.

Potential parliamentary aspirants have kick start subtle campaigns with hopes of annexing the parliamentary candidate slot, there were rumors that the former MP for Awutu Senya East will stage a comeback.

However, Alhaji Babalami, while expressing his love for the ruling party for which reason he has contributed in diverse ways for its growth and development, said although party supporters would have wished he contest the election, he has resolved to shelve that ambition and concentrate on helping the president at the seat of government.

He expressed his willingness and readiness to support the party in the constituency, insisting that his services at present is more needed at the presidency to help President John Dramani Mahama achieve the vision he has for this country.

“I was unaware when some party members and executives were campaigning for me to be elected as Parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the area…Let me put it on record that I have no interest in contesting the Awutu Senya East primaries. I’m really pleased with the position President John Dramani Mahama has given me as Presidential Staffer,” he stated

The ex-MP said he appreciated the numerous calls by the rank and file of the party to contest the primaries, but said what the party needed now is cooperation, peace unity and harmony to support whoever becomes the party’s choice after the primaries to propel the NDC to victory in the 2016 general elections.

He added that the NDC was united in the constituency and would continue to remain so to propel the party to victory in both the presidential and the parliamentary elections in the next general elections.
He therefore called on all his admirers and supporters to remain calm, saying, there is time for everything.

The former MP commended his supporters of the party for their unflinching support for the party and tasked the executives in the constituency not to show any bias towards anybody as they choose their aspirant for the area for the 2016 general elections.

He said he is ready to pledge his support for any candidate who emerges as winner after the contest, stressing, “I thank President Mahama for giving me the opportunity to serve him as a Presidential Staffer.”
