Journalists Top Pay GHȼ8 For Assembly Election Accreditation

Journalists who will be covering the September 1st District Assembly Elections will have to pay an amount of GHȼ8 before getting accreditation to cover the exercise in the Ashanti and Western regions.

Electoral Commission (EC) said journalists must pay the amount to get accreditation or forfeit the coverage of the elections.

The Commission noted that it can no longer bear the cost for the production of the accreditation, hence the charge.

Journalists who pay the said amount will be given their accreditation latest by Monday.

Head of Public Affairs at the Electoral Commission Christian Owusu Parry who confirmed the issue to Adom News said any observer is expected to pay. He explained that this is not new because from 2000, accreditation for any elections comes with a fee.

Mr. Owusu Parry said the fee is not exclusively to journalists; civil society groups and other observers also pay for their accreditation.
