VIDEO: There Are No Engineers At VRA; Only 'Watchneers'

The core business of the Volta River Authority (VRA) is to generate and supply electrical energy for industrial, commercial and domestic use in Ghana.

VRA can boast of seasoned electrical engineers who have obtained education to the highest level but their failure to provide a long lasting solution to Ghana's power crisis, has pushed Mr. Kofi Wayo to describe the institution as one stuffed with ‘watchneers’ and not engineers.

He claims not a single engineer from VRA can boast of even building a simple machine to power his personal home when there is power outage.

Mr. Wayo in an interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay FM stated that despite the training most of the engineers at VRA had in universities abroad, they can’t even repair their machines when it breaks down.

According to him, all the engineers cared about is to read abbots and wait for white engineers to fly down to Ghana to repair broken down machines.

“If you are an electrical engineer can’t you build a machine? When you get to VRA they would tell you they are engineers but all they do is to read an abbot.

When their machines get spoilt they sit there and wait for white engineers to come and repair it for them. Do they qualify to be called engineers, absolutely not, they are ‘watchneers’”, he said.
