Upper East Co-ordinating Council to Sanction Run-Away Contractors

The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo has warned contractors that the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) would not countenance shoddy execution of government contracts. Henceforth, apart from the normal routine requirement expected to be satisfied, contractors background, equipment holdings, experience, expertise and resources as well as tax fulfilled obligations would be taken into serious consideration before contracts are awarded to them, he said. The Minister gave the warning in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga. He said the RCC would pursue contractors, who collected mobilization funds from government and yet abandoned the projects for which the capital was made available. Mr. Woyongo said the exercise would include contractors who won the bid to rehabilitate Chuchuliga- Sandema road. He observed that low bidding by inexperienced contractors who are burnt on wining tender bids at all cost, could be one of the reasons why projects are abandoned. The Regional Minister asked contractors in the Region to do realistic quantity survey and budgeting when bidding for contracts.
