The out-gone Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Processor Haruna Yakubu has dismissed claims that the university was established with a tribal connotation.
Though it was established with the three regions of the north in mind, he said the UDS under his watch opened its frontiers to national and international communities.
Professor Haruna Yakubu reiterated his standpoint when he officially handed over to the new Vice Chancellor, Professor G.A Teye. He touted the UDS as one of the leading Ghanaian public universities which gained international stardom.
He commended all the UDS staff for their meritorious services which according to him uplifted the university’s trademark. Professor Haruna Yakubu challenged the new Vice Chancellor to improve on his legacy.
Professor G.A Teye thanked his predecessor for his exemplary leadership.
As means of not devaluing Professor Haruna Yakubu’s achievements, the new Vice Chancellor promised to build on the foundation. Professor Teye served notice that his administration will not tolerate laziness in all sectors of the chain of command.
He therefore stressed the need for the teaching and non teaching staff to reinforce their teamwork. He pledged to liaise with traditional and opinion leaders and all duty bearers to make the UDS unique.
Heads of the various departments praised Professor Haruna Yakubu for his remarkable stewardship. They urged the new Vice Chancellor to emulate his predecessor.
According to the UDS Registrar Dr. A.BT Zakariah, the out-gone Vice Chancellor was a unifier and all-inclusive leader.
He said the university will forever be indebted to Professor Haruna Yakubu for his unprecedented record. Dr. Zakaria implored the new Vice Chancellor to abhor autocracy and deepen collaboration with the sectional heads.
