Your Health, My Concern and Priority Hon. Adwoa Safo

The Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Hon Sara Adwoa Safo has assured her constituents that she would do anything possible within her means to ensure that they get proper health care.

To her, the health of her constituents and the nation in general makes up their wealth. Touching on the fourth Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Hon. Adwoa Safo said Ghana being ranked 41st on the World Maternal Mortality rate index is an indication of the fact that Ghana hasn’t done too well in the fight against maternal and infant mortality.

“Currently, eighty out of every one thousand live births do not make it past age five. We can improve upon this performance if we start providing adequate health care facilities in our small ways at the community and constituency levels” the Dome Kwabenya legislator posited.

Hon Adwoa Safo made the disclosure at the sod-cutting ceremony of a maternity Clinic and NHIA project she is constructing for her constituents at Haatso in the Ga East district of the Greater Accra region. On her reason for choosing this project, she said she considered how integral women are in the development of every society and how vulnerable the less privileged ones especially those in her constituency are in the area of health care and felt it was the best way to make maternal health care readily accessible for them though it is not enough.

On how the project would be financed, she disclosed that her share of the NHIA fund as Member of Parliament would be used to finance the project with the help and support of some individuals and charitable organizations. She was full of praise for the Chiefs and people of Haatso for providing the land free of charge for the project and called on other well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate this shining example to help make the lives of people they lead better.
