Robbers Arrested In Kumasi With Military Uniforms And Pump Action Gun (Photos)

The police in Ashanti have arrested five suspected armed robbers on board a taxi cab with four sets of military uniforms and a pump action gun with eight live cartridges.

They are suspected to part of gang of robbers who have been terrorizing small scale mining companies in the Jacobu and Manso Nkwanta areas

The five were arrested at Antoakrom in the Amansie West district of Ashanti Region upon a tip off .

Their names were given as Ibrahim Tanko alias Joseph Nyfam, 23; Kwabena Awusu alias Kwabena Ibrahim, 24; Ernest Kwabena Oware alias Adogo, 19; Ansbert Yaw Amoah alias Labista, 25 and the driver of the cab, Justice Botchway, 28.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye at a press briefing said on October 7, 2015, the police had information that a group of armed robbers were on their way to the area to rob some mining sites.

He said the five who were onboard a white and yellow Astra Opel cab with registration number AS 1908-13, were intercepted at Antoakrom, given a hot chase and apprehended at Mem Junction near Manso Nkwanta.

According to the police, when the vehicle was searched, the pump action gun with eight live rounds of BB cartridges wrapped in a fertilizer sack was found concealed under the rear bumper of the vehicle.

A further search also revealed four sets of military uniforms also concealed in a big speaker in the booth of the cab, a pair of military boot and eight mobile phones were retrieved from them.
