Police Grab Two For Snatching Taxi In Tamale

An alleged armed robber who snatched a taxicab from its driver in Tamale with the intention of selling it at Navrongo in the Upper East Region has been arrested by policemen stationed at the Gushie Police Checkpoint on the Tamale-Bolgatanga road. The alleged robber, Abdulai Salaam, was arrested together with another taxi driver, Danaah Stephen NIndo, 36, who he had hired to drive the taxicab to Navrongo for sale. Salaam and his accomplice, who is on the run, on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, hired the Fiat Ponto taxicab with registration number NR 273-14, being driven by Eric Asui, from the Goil Filling Station opposite the STC yard in Tamale to Kanville, also a suburb in the metropolis. Kanville Junction On reaching Kanville Junction, Salaam who was sitting behind the driver, stabbed the taxi driver�s head with a knife and with the help of his accomplice, bundled and threw the driver out of the vehicle and drove off to an unknown destination. The driver of the taxicab lodged a complaint with the police and a wireless message was sent to all the police checkpoints and barriers in the Northern Region and across the country. However, luck run out for Salaam who, on the third day after snatching the taxi from the driver, hired NIndo to drive the taxi to Navrongo where it was to be sold, but they were arrested at the Gushie Police Checkpoint. The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the arrest to the Daily Graphic in Tamale, said Salaam and NIndo had been charged with robbery and abetment of crime respectively after investigations and would be arraigned next week. ASP Tetteh told the Daily Graphic that the police had launched a manhunt for the arrest of Salaam's accomplice.
