Police Officers Reject Goat Bribe �From 4 Thieves

Police Officers from the Anyinam Police Command in the Eastern Region who were on night duty rejected a GH�200.00 and goat bribe offered by four suspected goat thieves, when they were busted. The thieves, Asiedu Yaw, 37, driver, Emmanuel Mensah,22, Emmanuel Boakye, 28, and Abubakari Issaka, both traders in Accra attempted to bribe the police officers to enable them get off the hook but their attempt was not successful and they were arrested. The four were arrested by the Anyinam Police Night Patrol team during a duty tour of the vicinity around 3:30 am last Saturday. While on patrol, the officers stopped an urvan bus with registration number, GW1793-Z which was heading from Kwarbeng to Anyinam. A search by the Police found in the vehicle, 14 goats, 5 live sheep and 3 slaughtered sheep. The Police officers on duty arrested the suspects and upon further interrogation, they admitted stealing the goats and sheep at Asamankese, Kade, Abodom, Pramkese and Kwarbeng and were heading to Anyinam. The convicts, after their arrest, offered GH�200.00 bribe and a goat to the Police which were rejected. They were subsequently charged with conspiracy to commit crime, abetment of crime and stealing. When they appeared before the Akyem Kwarbeng District Magistrate Court, they pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the Judge to forgive them. However, their plea was not taken and have been slapped with two years each imprisonment with hard labour by the Presiding Judge, His Worship Isaac Kwaku Amoah. Meanwhile, the Anyinam District Police Commander, DSP Jeffrey Darko has commended his men who were on duty for the professionalism exhibited while on duty. He assured residents that the police will continue to protect lives and property in the area and called on the residents to collaborate with the Police with timely information that would eventually lead to the arrest of crime suspects.
