Police Nab Five Highway Robbers

Five suspected highway robbers arrested with some military accoutrements and live ammunitions at Antoakrom near Manso-Nkwanta in the Amansie West District, have been detained by the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi.

They were seized by the police on October 07, at about 1330 hours, following a tip-off.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander told the media in Kumasi in a briefing that the suspects rode in an unregistered Opel Astra Salon car when nabbed.

They had gone to the place to rob some miners, but the police’s swift response to an SOS call sent by community members frustrated their (suspects’) plan.

DCOP Boakye said they had in their possession a pump action gun, nine live cartridges, four sets of military uniforms, a pair of military boots, eight mobile phones and a sound speaker when they were searched.

He gave their names as Ibrahim Tanko 23, Ernest Kwabena Oware 19, Justice Botwe 28, Ausbert Yaw Amoah 25, and Kwabena Owusu 24.

He called on miners who have fallen victim to robberies in the area, to lodge formal complaints with the Manso-Nkwanta Divisional police to facilitate the arrest of the miscreants.

Additionally, miners should seek police escort when transporting valuable goods and huge sums of money to and from their working sites.

The police Commander reiterated his resolve to continue to make life uncomfortable for those who decide to take the law into their own hands to disturb the prevailing peace.
