AG Delays Afokos Trial

The magistrate Court judge, who is presiding over the murder trial of Gregory Afoko and Musah Issah, His Worship Worlanyo Kotoku has advised parties in the case to press upon the Attorney General’s (AG) Department to submit its advice on the prosecution docket the police had submitted to it.

The case was adjourned on September 22 to enable the police submit their report to the AG for advice, but three weeks after no response has been confirmed from the department.

When the case was called, the trial judge had no other option than to adjourn the case to October 27, hoping that a response and direction from the AG’s department would be received.

At the last adjourned date, the police said that their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the acid attack on the late Adams Mahama, Upper East Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had been completed.

Supt. Francis Baah told the court where Gregory Afoko, 53, a farmer and Issah Musah, a driver, are being tried for the murder of Adams that the prosecution was forwarding the case docket to the AG for advice, but when the case was called, there was no response.

The story so far

Gregory and Musah are before the court for allegedly intentionally and unlawfully causing the death of Adams on May 20, 2015 at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

The police said, Issah, who is a member of the NPP, on 19 May, 2015 solicited and procured the deadly acid which he gave to other two suspects who in-turn poured it on Adams.

Asabke Alangdi, the third accused, has been on the run together with his wife, leaving behind their one-and-a-half-year-old baby. Gregory is facing charges of conspiracy and murder while Issah Musah, is being tried for abetment.

According to the police charge sheet, after the arrest of Gregory, he was asked to lead the police to the house of his alleged accomplice, Asabke Alangdi, but “he rather took them to the father’s house.”

He was later located in the house of the second accused, but the suspect had got wind of their presence and absconded with his wife, leaving behind their baby.

“A gallon, which contains some of the substance and a plastic cup were retrieved at the scene for forensic examination,” the charge sheet added.

The police have revealed that a “post mortem examination was conducted on the body of the deceased and the pathologist gave the cause of the death as shock lungs and extensive acid burns.”
