Yes, Our Signals Went Off5min After Nana Addos Interview, All Came Back Citi FM Boss

Chief Executive Officer of Accra-based Citi FM, Samuel Attah-Mensah has admitted that – all their frequency signals including satellite signals were jammed during a live studio interview with 2016 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday.

According to him, he received local and international complaints from their listeners who had extreme difficulty monitoring the much-publicised live interview.

People started calling us…I personally had a call from South Africa that our online streaming wasn’t working. I told the person to visit our website but the site also faced the same issue. I called on my technicians but before that, they have also received numerous complaints across the country.

…Around 10:30am, our partner stations who picked our signals through satellite also called in to complain about the signal break,” he said.

Samuel Attah-Mensah’s clarification comes after NPP’s Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh alleged that - government deliberately “jammed” Citi FM’s frequency when his flagbearer, Nana Addo was about to be interviewed by the private-owned station.

The Manhyia South NPP MP insisted that the deliberate signal interruption by government was meant to subvert Nana Addo’s message to Ghanaians.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show Ghana Montie, Sammens, as he is affectionately called, said the station initially thought the signal breaks were a “regular” hitch – but a complete operation worldwide gave them a second thought.

We never thought someone calculatingly did that to us, we thought it was a regular thing until someone also called that they get our signal from Multi TV channels but that one is also off. We were skeptical as to whether it was a regular technical problem,” he said.

After the one hour interview, between 5-10 minutes, all our signals came back to operation. I can’t admit if government jammed our signals or not because I don’t have the facilities to investigate. I haven’t even bothered to find out,” he told Kwasi Aboagye, host of NEAT FM’s morning show.
