Kotoko Player Blames Supporters For CAF Champions League Failure

The Porcupine Warriors endured a disappointing time at continental level when they exited the flagship competition at home. Asante Kotoko defender Atta Kusi claims supporters may have been responsible for the clubs woeful showing in the 2015 Caf Champions League. The Porcupine Warriors were eliminated by Algerian side MC El Eulma in the first round by a 2-1 defeat in the return leg at the Baba Yara Stadium, having impressively held the North Africans to a goalless stalemate in the reverse fixture. Kotoko did not achieve their target but I may not be in a good position to determine what went wrong, Kusi told the clubs official website. I can only share my views on our performance. For the Caf Champions League, it was basically hard luck and a little bit of complacency that cost us. Following the goalless draw in Algeria against Eulma, we all thought the second round would be an easy ride for Kotoko. The moment supporters create such impression in football, it can cause complacency among players. It was a contributing factor to our 2-1 loss. The Kumasi-based side reached the first round without having to kick a ball following the withdrawal of Sierra Leonean side East End Lions, but apparently found the Algerians too difficult to handle. Aside that, luck wasnt on our side because after taking the lead, we got many other chances which failed to enter the net, Kusi added. Kotoko have failed to make it to the group stage of the Caf Champions League since 2006 when they came third in Group A behind CS Sfaxien and Al-Ahly.
