Miner Remanded For Impregnating School Girl

The Tarkwa Magistrate Court II, presided over by Madam Justice Gifty Cudjoe, has remanded a 21 year-old small scale miner into prison custody for defilement and impregnation of a 13 year old primary four pupil.

The accused person, Isaac Adjei, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement and the case was adjourned to October 14.

Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman had told the court that the accused person lives at Bonsawire, a farming community near Tarkwa.

She said in June this year, the victim was sent by her mother, Madam Stella Mensah to sell iced water after school hours at the Tarkwa lorry station.

The accused lured her into a wooden structure and forcefully abused her and warned her not to tell anyone about the incident.

Some weeks later, the victim’s mother detected some unusual changes in her daughter and questioned her.

She mentioned the accused as having had sexual intercourse with her.

Inspector Anaman said the matter was reported to the police who issued her with a medical form to attend hospital for examination, where it was detected that she was twelve weeks pregnant.

The accused person was later arrested for questioning and he admitted the offence in his cautioned statement.
