Government Must Not Slash Black Stars Bonuses

Former Ghana player Samuel Opoku Nti wants the government to review its decision to reduce players bonuses. Former Ghana striker Samuel Opoku Nti is unhappy with plans by government to slash the regular winning bonuses of the Black Stars. According to reports from the ministry of youth and sports, winning bonuses of Ghana players would be cut back to $5000 from $10,000. Black Stars players must be given huge winning bonuses because they deserve it. It is their job and we must respect that, Nti told Ghanasoccernet.com. What most people do not know is that players have the shortest retirement age when it comes to work. As many people will be retiring at the age of 60, footballers retire between the ages of 34 and 38. They then have close to 22 years to have retired like others. So they must be given fat bonuses to be able to save for the future, he said. Nti, who was a member of the Ghana team that won the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations, urged both parties government and players to negotiate for an agreed amount. However, there has been no official announcement of plans to slash bonuses of the Black Stars and there have been no protests from the players camp. Ghana will play Comoros next month in the 2018 World Cup qualifying.
