The investigative committee set up to gather evidence on allegations of bribery against 34 judges and magistrates will Monday begin hearing the allegations against seven High Court judges.

Notices have been sent to the implicated judges, their lawyers and the undercover investigator, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, to appear before the committee.

A timetable outlining when each judge is expected to appear has also been drawn.

One of the affected judges, Mr Justice John Ajet-Nasam, the Daily Graphic gathered, is expected to be the first high court judge to appear before the committee.

Justices Ajet-Nasam, F. Opoku, Ernest Obimpeh, Ohene Essel, Ayisi Addo, K. Essel Mensah and Ivy Heward-Mills (Mrs) are the other judges expected to appear before the committee.

Retired Justices Yaw Ansu Gyeabour and Mohammed Ahmed Mustapha, who were also caught on the video prior to their retirement, are being investigated by the police.

Timelines

The judges are anticipated to report to the committee from October 19, 2015 to December 11, 2015.

Each of them has been given five days and a total of 30 hours to prove their innocence.

They are also to cross examine Anas, whose Tiger Eye P I team uncovered the biggest scandal to hit the Judiciary.

The 34 judges, magistrates and 146 members of staff of the Judicial Service, police officers and state attorneys were captured on a 500-hour video allegedly taking bribes to subvert justice.

Judicial Scandal

Anas’s private investigative company, Tiger Eye P I, conducted a two-year investigation, which produced the 500-hour video that captured the 34 judges and others allegedly engaging in bribery and extortion.

One court clerk was even caught in a sex scandal.

One of the High Court judges implicated in the video, Paul Uuter Dery, is on the heels of any organisation that attempts to screen the video, while 14 Circuit Court judges have filed a suit seeking to stop disciplinary proceedings instituted by the Judicial Council to investigate the matter.
