Man Jailed Seven Years For Defilement

The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced a man arrested over the defilement of a 14-year distant relative at Gyadam, a farming community in the Asante-Akim South District, to seven years imprisonment.

Samuel Kyei, a wood worker, admitted the crime and pleaded with the court to deal leniently with him moments before the presiding judge, Mr Fredrick Tetteh, announced his punishment.

Police Detective Sergeant Princeton Peasah Darkwah said the incident happened on October 10 at about 1730 hours.

The convict, an employee of a saw-mill, had closed from work and was on his way to the house, when he saw the victim drawing water from a public standpipe.

The prosecution said Kyei invited her to see him off to a distant and knowing him to be a distant relative, the unsuspecting girl obliged.

He dragged her to a nearby bush, where he sexually abused her.

Her loud piercing cry attracted the attention of one Sarkodie who rushed to the scene and caught Kyei right in the act.

The crime was reported to the police and in his caution statement, he confessed to defiling the girl.
