DKM CEO Granted Bail; PRO Beaten To Pulp

Mr Martin K. Delle, the CEO of DKM Micro-finance Limited, has been granted bail to the tune of GH¢500,000 with two sureties by the Sunyani District Court 'B' after he was arrested and detained by the police following an order from the court.

His passport and other travelling documents have also been taken to prevent him from travelling out of the country.

DKM Diamond Micro-finance was among a number of financial institutions in the Brong Ahafo Region suspended by the Bank of Ghana for flouting regulations of the Banking Act.

The suspension was lifted on September 12 after 120 days following an audit and the company's ability to clear itself, including the submission of plans as to how they would inject some GH¢50 million to shore up the company's capital base.

Things turned violent at the premises of DKM Micro-finance when some aggrieved customers who had gone there to take their deposits pounced on the Public Relation Officer of the company, Mr Ransford Agyemang, and subjected him to merciless beatings. He was rushed to an unknown hospital to receive treatment.

The frustrated customers, who besieged the company's office to demand their monies, got furious by the comment of the PRO when he attempted to explain to them why they could not make payment and had to postpone to today.

They broke glass doors in an attempt to enter the offices and take whatever they could, but heavily armed police and military teams arrived on time to quell further attacks before they could whisk away the company's CEO and other staff members to safety.

The police have taken over the offices of DKM Diamond Micro-finance Ltd following Friday's clashes between customers and a combined police and military team. Some of the company's buses have been parked at the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Headquarters.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police PRO, ASP Christopher Tawiah, said the police would continue their occupation of the company's premises until calm returns.

Some of the customers, who spoke to The Finder expressed their disgust at the conduct of the police and military, and accused them of taking sides by supporting DKM at the expense of the innocent customers.

About a month ago, the security of DKM Micro-finance Limited in Sunyani apprehended three customers who had gone to the premises with acid to attack the workers of DKM Micro-finance Company as a result of their inability to access money they have invested.
