A former Ghanaian world champion has been denied visa by the United States of America (USA), embassy in Ghana, despite travelling to the USA on countless occasions.
The boxer (name withheld), a well known international boxing icon, who is on record to have fought some high profile boxers is reported to have been denied visa on October 27, on grounds that he has no social contacts in Ghana to show that he will return to Ghana.
This the Peter Zwennes led Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) described as ridiculous and an attempt to frustrate boxers in the country who are seeking to enhance their professional career.
The Ghanaian was expected to fight a mandatory challenger on December 19 in California and information has it that, it was the third time, he was being denied visa.
The boxer seemed to have been hard hit by the decision of the embassy and is contemplating on going on appeal.
The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has taken up the issue and petitioned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) and the Consul General, Embassy of the United States of America.
The petition will seek to address three cases of other Ghanaian boxers who have been denied visas as well as the top Ghanaian boxer.
