We Were Paid GH100 For Afoko Demo

IT HAS emerged that most of the people who stormed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters in Accra to protest against the suspension of Paul Afoko, the NPP National Chairman, were not genuine NPP members.

One of the protestors, who gave his name as Haruna Iddrisu, made some shocking revelations on Otec FM, a local radio station in Kumasi, which has created doubt about the identity of the protestors.

Iddrisu openly confessed that he is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Asawase in Kumasi, adding that he and the other protestors were hired to hit the streets in Accra in support of Afoko.

He alleged that Isaac Brenya, the Asawase Constituency NPP Chairman, bussed them to Accra, paid each of them GH¢100, clothed them in NPP T-shirts and also gave them a bottle of Coke and bread to protest.

“We were there when Brenya, the NPP chairman for Asawase approached us to join him to Accra for a meeting. We initially thought it was only a meeting so we obliged and joined the bus to Accra.

“When we reached Accra, Brenya gave each one of us GH¢100 and told us that we were in the national capital to protest at the NPP headquarters against the suspension of Paul Afoko.

“At that time we had taken the GH¢100 and since we were not willing to return the money to him, we had no other option than to accept to join the demonstration for some few hours.

“Brenya then gave us NPP-branded T-shirts and we fully participated in the demonstrations,” Iddrisu told listeners of Otec FM on Friday, adding that “Brenya also fed us with Coke and bread after the demonstration.”

He added that the bus in which they were to return to Kumasi delayed a bit “and I and the other demonstrators from the Asawase Constituency became very angry,” but eventually the bus arrived for the journey to begin.

Iddrisu confessed that he and the rest of the protestors demanded that they wanted Paul Afoko back as NPP chairman “but inwardly it was not a genuine call from me since I am a true NDC member.”

He stated that he and his group from Asawase did not protest for NPP as a political party, rather they only carried out a contract given them by Brenya, the NPP chairman for Asawase.
