Veeps Wife Left In The Lurch

While protocol demands that guests of honours are the last to arrive at programs, the direct opposite was the case when wife of Ghana’s vice president, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur who was also the special guest of honour, attended the launch of the Third Library and Information Week ceremony in Koforidua last week.

Known for her time consciousness, the second lady, in the company of deputy Eastern regional minister, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong and one D. S Boateng, had a shock of her life when she arrived at the venue of the program at the exact time she was assigned without any of the organizers present.

Even though the program was originally billed to start at 8:30 am, it was agreed that Mrs Amissah-Arthur should arrive at 9:00 am by which time “everybody” would have been seated.

However, when she arrived at the ‘agreed’ time, members of the Ghana Library Association, the Regional Director of the Ghana Library Authority, the Regional Director of Education and the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who was to chair the function, were all nowhere to be found.

Even though all these dignitaries, as protocol demands, ought to have been seated to welcome the second lady, she ended welcoming them because they all arrived 20 minutes after Mrs Amissah-Arthur arrived.
Interestingly, school children of the Presbyterian primary school on the compound of the Ascension Presbyterian Church hall, the venue for the program, were allowed to the program 15 minutes after the second lady had assumed her seat.

After waiting for 20 minutes for the school children and the public, the program began; surprisingly nobody rendered apology to the second lady and her entourage.
