Dr. Daannaa dethrones Wa East MP in NDC Primary

Dr. Henry Seidu Daannaa, Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, has defeated Mr. Amenu Salifu, Member of Parliament for Wa East, in the constituency primary of the National Democratic Congress.

Dr. Richard Kuuire, former Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Dr. Sebastian Sandere, Medical Doctor at the Lawra District Hospital, Dr. Bawana Dakura and Mr. Bede Ziedeng are among the new entrants in the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) primaries contest in the Upper West Region.

Incumbent Members of Parliament, Mr. Alban S.K. Bagbin, the Majority Leader, Mr. Joseph Yieleh Chireh, Alhaji (Dr) Rashid Pelpuo, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Madam Alijata Sulemana and Mr.Edward Dery retained their seats, the only casualties were Mr. Amenu Salifu and Mr. Samson Abu who lost the Wa East and Lawra constituencies seats to Dr. Daannaa and Mr. Bede Ziedeng.

In the Wa East Primary, Dr. Daannaa won with 2,944 votes while Mr. Salifu obtained 2,804 votes.

Mr. Bagbin won the Nadowli-Kaleo Primary with 3,237 votes defeating Mr. Roger Gaalee and Mr. Salifu Dumba who obtained 1,696 and 1,090 votes respectively.

Dr. Kuuire beat Cuthbert Baba Kuupiel, the current District Chief Executive for Nandom with 2,931 votes when the DCE polled 2,405 votes.

The Jirapa seat fell to Dr. Dakura who polled 4,832 votes as against Madam Kunku and Lawyer Charles Lwanga who obtained 585 and 2,043 votes respectively.

Mr. Chireh won the Wa West primary, beating two other contestants Mr. Frank Bandanaa and Alhaji Seidu Tungbani with 3,269 votes. Mr. Bandanaa had 2,550 votes and Alhaji Tungbani polled 1,954 votes.

In the Lambussie-Karni Constituency primary, Mr. Edward Dery polled 2,435 votes to beat Maselenus Kande Welba who also polled 1,502 votes.

Dr. Sandare won the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Constituency primary with 2,657 votes, beating Mr. Abu Kasangbata and Colonel Walter who received 2,214 votes and 166 votes.

Mr. Ziedeng ousted Mr. Abu in the Lawra Constituency primary with 2,747 votes, as against 2,731 votes.

The Wa Central Constituency which had five contestants in the primary, saw the incumbent Member of Parliament, Alhaji Pelpuo emerging the winner, beating the other contestants with 4,945 votes.



Dr. Musheibu Mohammed Alfa, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, polled 2,495 votes, Mr.Kukurah Jamal-Deen 528 votes, Mr.Wahid Bampuori 37 votes and Mr. Iddrisu Mahama 223 votes respectively.

Reports reaching the GNA indicated that both Alhaji Sulemana and Madam Sulemana won the primaries in the Sissala West and Sissala East Constituencies.
