NPP Promises ToFinance Education Of Daughter Of Murdered Activist

Leading New Patriotic Party members led by its running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Sunday joined other sympathizers for the funeral of the party’s slain activist at Asawase in Kumasi.

The party announced at the ceremony a scholarship package for the late Abubakar Saddique’s daughter. Eight year-old Primary Three pupil, Abigail Mordy, will enjoy the facility up to the tertiary level. Her father, Abubakar Siddique, was stabbed to death by unknown assailants early this month.

It followed a forced opening of the NPP constituency office after it had been locked up by a faction in New Patriotic Party internal feud over suspended Chairman, Paul Afoko. Dr. Bawumia, who announced the scholarship deal on behalf of the party, also donated 8,000 Ghana cedis cash to the family for the child’s upkeep. He said: “Nana Akuffo Addo says I should tell the bereaved family Abubakar Siddique has sacrificed his life for the NPP, the party will therefore not neglect his family”. “We are aware he left behind a child and her mother; there are also his father and uncle”, Dr. Bawumia continued.

Dr. Bawumia explained the party will take care of all of them just as Abubakar would, if he was alive. “This child, God willing will grow to become a doctor,” The NPP 2012 running mate prophesied. Abigail confirms to Luv News Dr. Bawumia’s prediction she aspires to become a medical doctor. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bawumia revealed the party’s decision to sponsor her education up to the university.

Saddique’s death has attracted wide condemnation from various quarters, including the Presidency and the Council of Zongo Chiefs and Imams, who describe it as “unfortunate” to Ghanaian politics. Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Freddy Blay, urged the party’s youth to remain calm as the leadership works towards capturing power in 2016. “He has sacrificed his life for us all so the NPP will win power so the hardship of Ghanaians will end after 2016 elections.

So don’t let his death and our struggle be in vain,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have declared wanted a prime suspect Muhammadu nicknamed “dunia” and some others in connection with the murder of Abubakar Siddiq. Three other suspects are on remand and are due back in court on Tuesday.
