Namoale Apologises

The Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Nii Amasa Namoale, has apologised to the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for statements he made after the parliamentary primaries of the party accusing them of bias against him.

"I recognise that my statement did not reflect the united front that our party seeks to build," he said in a letter dated December 7, 2015 and addressed to the National Chairman of the NDC, Mr Kofi Portuphy and copied to the General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia and the Greater Accra Regional Executive.

He said he was a keen believer in what the party stood for and had absolute faith in its structures.

"I am, therefore, by this letter, apologising for the said remark", the letter said, adding that it was made in the heat of the elections and the events that followed.

In an interview with Graphic Online, Nii Namoale said he had realised, after listening to a recording of what he said and conferring with some members of the party within the La Dadekotopon Constituency that he went overboard in his criticisms of the leadership of the regional branch of the party.

The letter, he said, was therefore, to calm tempers and make it clear that he did not intend to question the integrity or sense of fairness of the leadership.

Background

Nii Namoale, in various interviews with the media after being declared the winner of the La Dadekotopon parliamentary primaries of the NDC, suggested that the regional executive members of the party were biased against him and had put in measures to ensure that he did not win the elections.

About a week after that interview, the Greater Accra Regional Executive of the party announced his suspension. The National Executive Committee later overturned the decision.
