Farmer appeals for permanent bridge over river Korang

Nana Kwaku Awuku, chief farmer of Otoase near Colatar in the Eastern Region, has appealed to the Department of Feeder Roads for the construction of a permanent bridge over River Korang. Nana Awuku made the call after he led the Ghana News Agency to inspect a dilapidated bridge over the river and said it collapsed any time there was a heavy rain. He said currently farmers in the area had to walk long distances from Kwadjokuti through Odum and Kuru to Otoase before boarding a vehicle to Nsawam market to sell their farm produce. Nana Awuku said the situation was affecting the health of the farmers as well as their finances and productivity. He said when the bridge is constructed it would reduce their 12 kilometre walk to Otoase, and would make it easier for them to send their foodstuffs to the marketing centres. He appealed to the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Samuel Ayeh Paye, to support in the building of the bridge with part of his common fund.
