New Amenfi West MP Vows To Beat NPP Again In 2016

NDC’s newest Member of Parliament for Amenfi West, Eric Afful retained the seat for the incumbent party in a by-election but opposition NPP closed the gap which was widen in the 2012 elections.

Since 1992, the people of Amenfi West have always voted for NDC until 2003 when the then NDC member, Mr Kofi Asante resigned as MP.

The by-election then led to Agnes Samfo winning the seat for the NPP for the first time. The seat returned to the NDC in the general election in 2004 until the demise of John Gyetuah.

The NDC again retained the Amenfi West Constituency seat in the by-election held Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

Their candidate Eric Afful polled 15,806, representing 52.6% of the 30,030 valid votes cast to beat his main contender, Paul Derkyi, 43, who represented the New Patriotic Party (NPP) - Derkyi polled 13,079, representing 43.6% of the total valid votes cast.

With the performance of the NPP – they are very optimistic of wining the seat from the NDC if they work extra harder in the 2016 elections.

But Eric Afful on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie' insisted that the NPP will again be beaten in 2016.

He promised to transform the constituency within the 12 months to the 2016 polls – “I will work hard to maintain the seat again”.

However, Eric Afful expressed optimism that president Mahama will be giving the mandate to lead Ghana looking at his juicy achievements over the years.
