Invest In Education Anim

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Trobu Constituency in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra region, Mr. Moses Anim has stated that quality education can only be achieved when conscious efforts are made towards investing in the material and human resource base of the sector.

Mr. Anim said good and quality education can never be realised if the various components that ensure quality are not seriously addressed.

He revealed that the little input invested in the 41 public schools in the constituency last year by sharing lesson notes, registers, chalk and sponsoring of two mock exams contributed to the constituency topping in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination in the region.

“When we talk of quality it’s not about how many schools you have built or the number of pupils’ enrolment in schools but how teaching and learning materials such as chalk, registers, lesson notes books and textbooks are available to the schools with teacher motivation,” he said.

Speaking to the Daily Heritage at a special programme organized at Omanjor under the theme ‘Meet your MP,’ Mr. Anim said no country has been able to develop if the educational sector fails to produce good and better brains to man the various institutions and “this is done by first of all building a solid foundation for basic and secondary education.”

“If you want to achieve quality education you must invest and make sure that the basic things like chalk, textbooks and registers are periodically provided to the various schools,” he stated.

The MP said the Ministry of Education report for the past nine months on Internally Generated Funds (IGF) 2015, revealed that only 52% of the target was achieved which means that IGF cannot fund the goods and services component.

Explaining the role of an MP to the people, he said the advocacy they play has always been to seek the welfare of the constituents on various developmental projects such as lobbying for good roads, pipe borne water, electricity and other basic necessities.

He added that on the floor of parliament, he has personally hauled the Minister of Roads and Highways to answer questions on the upgrading of certain road networks in his constituency but the problems always boil down to financial constraints.

The MP again mentioned the lack of potable water as another major challenge adding that the whole municipality has only 27% water coverage; a situation he said, is having an adverse effect on the people who end up spending all their expenses on water.

Mr. Anim advised them to establish relationship among them in order to identify criminals who live among them and report them to the appropriate security agencies.

He assured them of his continuous support to foster unity, provide adequate security and build peace-loving constituency for all.
