Govt Ready to Equip EC

President John Evans Atta Mills has expressed the governments commitment to dialogue with the Electoral Commission (EC) regularly on how to equip the EC to run successful elections in the country. He said as Ghana was being applauded as the bastion of democracy on the African continent, there was the need for constant dialogue among stakeholders on how the system could be improved to ensure free fair and transparent polls. The Communications Director at the Presidency, Mr Koku Anyidoho, told the Daily Graphic yesterday ahead of the visit of a high-powered delegation of the EC to the President today that it was the conviction of the President to improve on the countrys democratic credentials. The delegation, which is being led by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, will be at the Castle to seek audience with the President on a wide range of issues relating to Ghanas electoral processes. Mr Anyidoho said since governments supported the budgets of the EC any responsible government would like to have a constant dialogue on how to improve on the process.
