'Alhaji Banda Should Not Provoke Me' - Says Mavis Hawa Koomson

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East in the Central Region, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has launched a scathing attack on a former member of the Council of State, Alhaji Asoma Banda, for claiming that the party’s candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, can never be Ghana’s president.

According to Mavis Hawa Koomson, the comment by the business mogul is borne out of malice in an attempt to make him (Nana) unpopular ahead of the 2016 general elections.

Alhaji Asoma Banda, in an interview on socio-political discussion programme Hot Issues, hosted by veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr on TV3, expressed doubt that the NPP flagbearer could be a good leader of the country.

He indicated that Nana Akufo-Addo, who is making his third attempt to clinch the highest office, “can never be president.”

“The truth is he [Nana Akufo-Addo] can never be president… You see, to be a president, Kwesi, you must have a certain structure, intelligence,” he said.

But a livid Hawa Koomson, in an interview with Adom Fm on Sunday, said Alhaji Banda, who is Founder and Chairman of Antrak Group, should be the last person to talk about competence.  “Alhaji Banda should not provoke me; he should concentrate on his crippling business and leave Akufo-Addo and the NPP alone,” she fumed.

Ms Koomson wondered whether there was any special criterion which qualified anyone to be president of Ghana.

In her view, if even “a visionless” leader like John Mahama has become president of Ghana, nothing debars an “over-qualified and visionary” leader like Akufo-Addo from being president.

The Awutu Senya East MP said Nana Akufo-Addo will not be bothered by such ‘pull-him-down’ comments but will rather work hard to redeem Ghanaians from this incompetent Mahama-led administration.

“Ghanaians are suffering and are crying for Nana Addo and the NPP to save them so such comments from elder statesmen like Asoma Banda make matters worse.”

Ms Koomson urged the former Council of State member not to allow himself to be used by corrupt leaders in government.
